    The Maybourne Riviera

Opened in mid-November, The Maybourne Riviera on France’s Côte d’Azur is a modernist dreamscape overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, with sleek lines and sophisticated offerings. From a star-studded dining experience to jaw-dropping views, this fifth outpost for The Maybourne Hotel Group— who also run famed London properties Claridge’s and The Connaught—utilizes its enviable location to its advantage, giving you the opportunity to see the French Riviera in a whole new way.

    Location:

Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, where The Maybourne Riviera is located, is a charming town, with less than half the population of Monte Carlo and lots of historical appeals (a 10th-century castle, a 2,000-year-old olive tree). Plus, the hotel’s central location—it’s about a 15-minute drive from both Monte Carlo and Menton—means it’s a great home base when attending events like the Monaco GrandPrix as well as an ideal jumping-off point for exploring the rest of the French Riviera. The hotel is also a quick 30-minute car ride from the Nice airport.

    Vibe:

Set on a rocky peninsula, the hotel is modern and refined, with an incredible exterior designed by France-based architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, whose firm is behind a number of high-end hotel designs, including Hotel Cheval Blanc in St. Tropez. Inside, the vibe is chic; you’ll feel like you’ve entered a sophisticated but still playful space that pays homage to art and design. To that end, a number of artists have also lent their talents to the hotel, including André Fu who designed the spa. In total, there are 69 rooms and suites—all of which have their own terrace with a glass surround that further enhances the water view. (Currently, about 20 rooms are available, with the rest opening in spring 2022.) The largest of the suites is the aptly-named Panoramic Suites, each of which is over 1,000 square feet, with a walk-in closet and separate dining area.

    Why We Love It:

It’s hard to add to the beauty of the French Riviera, but The Maybourne Riviera manages to do just that. That’s thanks in part to its design, which pops against the backdrop of the Mediterranean, and in part to its many unique offerings and amenities. Most impressive? The dining experience. There are a number of different restaurants here, two of which—Ceto and Riviera—are headed by Michelin-starred chef Mauro Colagreco. (Colagreco’s Mirazur restaurant, also on the Côte d’Azur, earned the top spot on the world’s 50 best restaurant list in 2019.) Ceto focuses on seafood and features an aging room for fish—a practice inspired by an ancestral Japanese ritual. While there, don’t miss the six-course Chef’s Table tasting menu, which is an ideal way to experience what’s on offer. Riviera, on the other hand, provides a twist

on traditional flavors of the region, from Genoa in Italy to Saint Tropez. In April, additional culinary spaces are set to open, including a restaurant by star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten that will also include a specific menu by sushi chef Hiro Sato. Along with dining, the hotel is a haven for wellness. Recharge on the beach at the Maybourne Riviera Beach Club, which guests have access to, or opt for a facial or massage at the spa. (While the spa officially opens in April, for now, you can have a treatment done in your room.) And of course, you can spend an afternoon swimming in one of their two pools, including the outdoor infinity pool.
