    Aman New York

Opened in the summer of 2022, this Aman property is its third in the US—and first on the East Coast. With its home in the historical Crown Building in NYC, the hotel strives to provide a haven for guests to unwind and with its well-designed suites, signature restaurants and truly stand-out wellness experience, it totally succeeds.

    Location:

Just a couple of blocks from Central Park, this midtown Manhattan building was originally designed in the early 1920s by Warren & Wetmore, the same architectural firm that was behind Grand Central Station as well as some of the most lux hotels of the day. With its location on 57th Street and 5th Avenue, it’s an ideal jumping off point to see what the rest of the city has to offer, from the Museum of Modern Art (which was also once housed in the Crown Building) to Carnegie Hall to the shopping on 5th Avenue—all of which are under a 10 minute walk. The hotel is easily accessible from all of New York’s airports, too, with LaGuardia about a 30 minute drive into the city.

    Vibe:

Sleek, sophisticated and decidedly chic, while the building channels Old New York, the interiors feel like a modern oasis, “transporting guests away from the frenetic pace of the city below,” as they explain. Expect clean lines, neutral colors and lux amenities throughout and in the 83 suites. And while it’s hard to be the first to do something in an always-innovating place like NYC, the hotel manages to do just that with working fireplaces in each suite—something not offered in any other hotel in the city. Add in Asian design influences, oversized, noise-reducing windows, and soaking tubs, and you can understand how the “urban sanctuary” description fits well here. Looking for lots of space? Reserve one of the Aman Suites, which are over 2,000-square-feet and have kitchen, office and dining areas. Also good to know: Their Corner Suites can also be connected to other suites for larger groups or a multi-generational family traveling together.

    Why We Love It:

From the redesign to the amenities—it’s Aman’s most ambitious project thus far—the hotel shines in so many ways. Further underscoring its mission of calm and relaxation is the 25,000-square-foot spa, which is spread out over three floors. Going beyond the typical, you’ll find everything from high-end tech, like an OligoScan to check your overall health, to vitamin therapy to full on multi-week immersion wellness programs, as well as, of course, massages, facials, a gym, pool, and more. And if you really want to bliss out, consider one of their two private Spa Houses, which include either a hamman or banya and hot and cold plunge pools on the terrace, plus spots to relax. Once it’s time for dining, you’ll find distinct venues, including Arva, for a seasonally focused Italian menu and Nama, a celebration of Japan’s washoku dining tradition. A not-to-miss experience: Omakase at Nama. “Served at the restaurant’s carefully crafted Japanese Hinoki wood counter, guests can observe the theatre of the food preparation, coming face-to-face with the chef as he works artfully to create each diner’s bespoke menu,” as they explain. You can snag one of two nightly seatings for the multiple course dinner. Also fun? Whether you’re visiting in the winter or the height of summer, you can hang out outdoors at the hotel’s Garden Terrace, which has a retractable glass roof for year-round use. Rounding things out is The Jazz Club, where you can take in live music  performances in a cool, 1920s-era space—complete with its “secret” entrance.
