    Alila Marea Beach

Laidback serenity is calling at Alila Marea Beach. The first new-build and third Alila property in the US, this resort serves up everything from sunrise yoga to sunset drinks by the fire, against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. Beach time is the highlight of any stay here, but be sure to save some time for Spa Alila, which offers five treatment rooms and a sauna, as well as the variety of activities Alila offers — from farm tours and cooking classes to paragliding Torrey Pines.

    Location:

Just off historic Highway 101, Alila Marea Beach is situated in the quintessential coastal town of Encinitas, and offers both seaside strolls and trail treks for guests. Located along the San Diego North County shoreline and only 35 minutes from San Diego Airport, Alila Marea Beach is perfect for a weekend getaway from San Diego or Los Angeles, or as an additional stop for anyone checking the Pacific Coast Highway drive off their bucket list.

    Vibe:

With a blend of community, culture, cuisine, and wellness—not to mention the gorgeous, cliff-side surroundings—there’s something for everyone at Alila Marea Beach, whether you’re looking for a romantic hideaway or a family oceanfront escape. Thoughtful in-room touches like a wetsuit hanging rack and beach tote are perfect for the scene, and many rooms come with a balcony equipped with a fit pit, creating a private escape-within-an-escape. Plus, if you’re looking to spread out, the hotel boasts two 1,000-square-foot presidential suites.

    Why We Love It:

Only the third Alila in the US, we’re thrilled to see a sustainable, luxury brand open on the Southern California coast. Most resorts along the coast are much larger, and with a total of 130 guest rooms and suites, Alila Marea Beach feels intimate and bespoke. You’ll have direct beach access and beach butler service, along with daily programming that ranges from surf lessons to beach cloud gazing, making it easy to never leave the resort. However, for those looking to explore the local neighborhood, Alila offers Electra Go! Bikes and Tesla house car service to check out the wealth of local offerings, such as the California Surf Museum, Batiquitos Lagoon, and of course, shopping in the Village. We’d be remiss not mention the sustainability efforts of the hotel: Guided by the environmental group Earthwatch, Alila rooms ban the use of single use plastic, provide composting containers, solar water heating, and low voltage lighting.

    Why You Should Go F1RST

When you book with F1S, your stay comes with daily breakfasts for two, a complimentary upgrade, if available, and a $100 hotel credit. We recommend using that credit at VAGA Restaurant —Chef Claudette Zepeda’s (of Top Chef and Top Chef Mexico fame) premier restaurant and a love letter to San Diego. Not to be missed, her menus blend the best of the best from the ocean and the farm.

    F1S Tips:

Try the “Red Risotto” on the lunch menu at VAGA. It was inspired by the Indian flavors of a meal Chef Zepeda had in London—one of her all-time favorites.
