    NoMad London

Housed in a former courthouse in the enviable Covent Garden neighborhood in London, this hotel shines with a stand-out dining scene, innovative wellness offerings, and a curated collection of artwork— not to mention a few fun surprises (Visit the on-site police museum, anyone?)

    Location:

For their debut in Europe, NoMad has chosen a London property that’s particularly special. In the city’s Covent Garden neighborhood, surrounded by bars, restaurants, theaters and other cultural touchstones, the hotel is housed in a former court building— The Bow Street Magistrates’ Court and Police Station—dating back to the 19th century. Entertainment abounds in the neighborhood, with the Royal Opera House right across the street and other fun spots, like Leicester Square, also nearby. The ride from Heathrow airport is about an hour.

    Vibe:

Designed by New York-based firm Roman and Williams—who also recently wrapped the design of the British Galleries at New York’s Museum of Modern Art—the former court building has taken on a new life, with a sophisticated vibe, gorgeous textures, and a singular art collection. There are 91 rooms and suites, all of which contain numerous pieces of original artwork. (But more on that later!) The largest of the suites is the Royal Opera Suite which has, as the name would suggest, views of the opera house, along with a living room and a beautiful freestanding claw-foot tub.

    Why We Love It:

There are so many stand-out aspects to this hotel, we almost don’t know where to begin. But let’s start with the dining scene. Headed by executive chef Ashley Abodeely, there are currently three distinct eating and drinking spots, including Side Hustle, the British pub-style eatery set in the place once occupied by the police station and serving fresh Mexican cuisine, The Library, called “the living room of the hotel” which is a guests-only space for breakfast, lunch or a drink and small plates at night, and the signature NoMad Restaurant. The restaurant is stunning—the high ceilings, the greenery, the lush blue seating—and is ideal for brunch on the weekends or nightly dinner, all with a local focus. Plus, coming soon is Common Decency, NoMad’s first late night lounge and craft cocktail bar. On the wellness front, the hotel has partnered with Ricari Studios and de Mamiel to offer a number of signature skin, face, and body treatments. Then, we alluded to the artwork earlier, and it definitely deserves more attention. Curated by Roman and Williams, along with Paris design studio Be-poles, there are 1,600 pieces of art throughout the hotel—many pieces are concentrated in the guest rooms—with a focus on celebrating “the influence of post-war American art and the European avant-garde.” Also cool? The on-site Bow Street Police Museum, which is free for guests, and features cells-turned-galleries, photos, and more.
