9 Incredible Hotels With Wineries & Vineyards Around the World

From Italy and France to Canada and California’s Napa Valley, these resorts not only offer outstanding wine experiences but tons of amenities, too.

Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or more of a just a glass-of-red-with-dinner kind of drinker, visiting a wine resort in some of the most gorgeous destinations around the world can truly elevate your experience. Add in some amazing amenities—spas, tastings, outdoor adventures—and you may never want to leave. With that in mind, we asked F1S advisors to recommend some of their favorite properties that are home (or very close to) world-class wineries and vineyards. From Italy and France to Spain and Canada, here are some of our favorites:

Borgo San Felice – Castelnuovo Berardenga, Italy

“This village-turned-resort turns out some of the best Chianti in the area,” says F1S advisor George Alexandrou of this Relais & Chateaux property in Tuscany, about half an hour outside Siena. Surrounded by gorgeous vineyards, the vast majority of which are Sangiovese, this sprawling wine resort features 60 rooms and suites, as well as two villas, each with its own private chef and views of the trees and olive groves beyond. Along with wine tasting sessions and guided tours of the vineyards and cellars, the food experience is also top-notch, including the standout Michelin-starred Poggio Rosso.

    Castello Banfi –  Montalcino, Italy

“With vineyards as far as the eye can see, the exclusive 14-room castle is the perfect buyout for a wedding or even for a celebration birthday,” says Alexandrou of this breathtaking property about an hour outside Siena, whose rooms and suites were designed by Federico Forquet. Walk the historic property, relax in the heated pool, visit the Enoteca, to try their wines, which range from Centine Bianco to their Chianti Classico Riserva. And then bring the whole experience together with the Castello Banfi Excellence Tour, which includes a vineyard tour and four-course tasting menu plus wine pairing from La Taverna, the resort’s signature restaurant.

Il Borro, San Giustino Valdarano, Italy

“Il Borro has restored its own village, has amazing rooms, suites, and villas for multi-generational stays that are complemented with modern-day comforts. It is a beautiful setting— surrounded by vineyards, horse pastures, olive groves, and Cyprus trees—which create such a peaceful ambiance in and of itself,” says F1S advisor Leah Winck. She hosted an Instagram Live last summer with Salvatore Ferragamo, whose family owns the property. “There is amazing Michelin-rated gastronomy coupled with their own delicious biodynamic wines, and the charm of an actual active artisan village onsite, where you can experience jewelry making, shoemaking, and ceramic workshops, to name a few. Il Borro is a favorite of mine and many who visit, for so many reasons. The history, restoration, vineyards and pastures, organic farm and produce, quality of food and wines, and access to Ferragamo’s museum collection of renowned art, all make it easy to see why it’s so easy to be enamored with this special property.”

Inn on the Twenty –  Jordan Village, Ontario, Canada

“We love that Inn on the Twenty is small and personal—only 28 rooms/suites—and that it’s boutique but not over-the-top designer,” says F1S advisor Derrick Bloch of this property about 75 minutes outside Toronto in the Twenty Valley region of Niagara’s Wine Country. (Bloch’s a total insider: He and his wife also live in the area.)  “They have a very talented chef and the area itself is off the heavily touristed routes. But most of all, we love its location right in the center of several wonderful wineries. Because let’s face it: that’s what you go to the winelands for, no?” In fact, the region boasts over 50 vineyards, with wines ranging from local riesling to pinot noir.

Château La Coste – Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade, France

“Château La Coste is a very special place as it combines an amazing organic vineyard—producing the highest quality in red, white and rosé wines—and is also one of the most renowned contemporary art and architecture parks in the world,” explains F1S advisor Pierre-Alexandre Francin, of this almost 500-acre resort just outside Aix-en-Provence. “It also features a Palace hotel, Villa La Coste, as well as numerous dining options including celebrity chefs Helene Darroze and Francis Mallman. La Coste has become a destination on its own in Provence, which makes it a not-to-be-missed stay for clients visiting the South of France.”

Hotel Marqués de Riscal –  Elciego, Spain

Let the show-stopping design of this property in Spain’s Rioja wine region—created by legendary architect Frank Gehry—draw you in. (How can it not?) And then stay for the fantastic amenities, starting with the 43 rooms and suites that boast views of vineyards, mountains, and the village of Elciego. The on-property wine and culinary scene is not to be missed, particularly the Michelin-starred Restaurante Marqués de Riscal and Vinoteca & Bistro, featuring wines from the Marques de Riscal estate—all of which are organic. And extend your winery experience even further at The Spa Vinotherapie, which includes a Crush Cabernet Scrub, use of a Merlot and honey exfoliant, and more.

    Meadowood – St. Helena, CA

Though impacted by the devastating Glass Fire wildfire last fall and closed for a time, the Meadowood in Napa Valley, California is open once again. Currently, you’ll have your pick of 36 “lodge-style” rooms, complete with fireplaces and, in many, private outdoor spaces. And when it’s time to focus on wine, get the full experience with classes—a few centers specifically on the region’s Cabernet Sauvignon—and tours at The Wine Center at Meadowood Estate.

Four Seasons Napa Valley – Calistoga, CA

Set to open late this year—though you can already start booking your stay—this new Four Seasons resort in Napa shines and is a favorite of F1S advisor Deborah Roche. Between the accommodations (85 options, along with the 3,400-square-foot Estate Villa), the dining (Michelin-starred chef Erik Anderson is at the helm of the signature TRUSS Restaurant + Bar) and the fact that the property includes a working winery and vineyard right on-site (not to mention all of Napa, its Cabernet Sauvignon and other varieties, right at your fingertips) and you have all the pieces for a true wine getaway.
